This nursery has completely surpassed my expectations in every way. It has allowed my children to be children in these most important early years. Being outside surrounded by nature, becoming confident both physically and mentally. They have both thrived in this nurturing and supportive environment.

This isn’t a forest school add on – this is proper forest school and I really don’t think you can give your child a better start in life. The staff are so amazing at what they do and are genuinely invested in each and every child. This isn’t run like a business – it is a community where people will go above and beyond to support you. My first child has transferred to reception without any issues and absolutely loves returning for adventure in the woods during the holidays.

This place is truly special. Your child will get to do things here that they won’t be exposed to in other settings – like sledging when it’s icy, playing hide and seek in the Christmas Tree plantation at Christmas, toasting marshmallows when it’s chilly, being surrounded by bluebells in the spring and loving every second zooming around on balance bikes, climbing trees and crafting to their hearts content no matter what the weather. The list is endless.

The skills and knowledge my son learned and practised here, like working with the land and food, listening to birdsong and singing songs about the seasons, discovering himself and his love of nature, working and playing as a team with his peers and building on all kinds of social skills – I could go on forever – reach far beyond any measurable target that Ofsted could demand on paper. (Though they do meet those targets brilliantly, incidentally!)

The children here learn real-life skills in such an engaging setting, and in such an organic way that respects each child’s individual needs. For example, the children are encouraged to carry out risk assesments, noting down any dangers they can spot on their clipboards. This activity helps with such a broad range of skills, not to mention the confidence it gives children when they are entrusted with tasks.

The staff respect children at Elves and Fairies. They speak to them as equals, trusting their innate abilities and filling them with confidence to push themselves. They show them so much love and support, helping them to grow into emotionally healthy children with their authoritative, wise and nurturing approach to any problems the child might be having. I have seen how they always try to get to the root of a problem behaviour rather than just trying to stamp it out,  something that is really important to me as a parent and that my son benefits from hugely.

As a parent I have also been lucky enough to be welcomed into the community, through their wonderful seasonal celebrations and gatherings and even just through the many reassuring conversations and emotional and practical support I have personally received from the community in my times of need, helping me to be a more connected parent and ultimately benefitting our family.

I really can not speak highly enough of Elves and Fairies. They are so much more than a nursery, or childcare. They are an essential part of our support network and our son learned so much here. I am looking forward to beginning the journey again with his little brother at the toddler group on Fridays, where his love of nature will be nurtured around the most brilliant people.

I highly recommend this nursery. I had a very premature baby and when she was old enough sent her here, mainly because I wanted to boost her immunity naturally.
however the nursery has been exceptional in all areas, I have seen my little girl thrive and grow in confidence, the teachers are amazing and nothing is ever too much trouble. My little one is also learning things that you would not be able to learn in a normal setting. Like drinking tree sap , who knew ? I didn’t .Anyone who is looking for a nursery just have a look ..the setting is beautiful and you’ll see your little one thrive .

An absolute Gem of a
Nursery, set in the most beautiful Dorset woodland.
Both my children have loved attending here, and always want to re visit I. The holidays, they both have so much confidence, a wonderful regard for nature and their surroundings, and they both accept challenges head on.
I believe this is because they have been encouraged to learn through outdoor play and nurtured by the wonderful staff.
I would recommend this nursery 100%
